Astilbe: Astilbe is a low maintenance plant with tall, feathery flowers that are available in a wide variety of colors. This is a great choice for shade gardens and attracts butterflies. 

Bugbane: Bugbane features fragrant bottle brush flowers that bloom mid to late summer. This plant can be grown in full sun to full shade and prefers moist to wet soil. 

Bugloss: Buglosses have large, heart shaped leaves with small blue flowers adorning them in the spring. This is a relatively low maintenance plant that prefers partial shade to full shade and evenly moist, well-drained soil. 

Columbine: Columbine features large flowers with bold colors that bloom mid-spring. Performs well in both full sun and full shade, and average to evenly moist conditions. 

Epimedium: Epimedium, or Bishop’s hat feature small, star shaped flowers over heart shaped green leaves and makes a great groundcover. This plant does best in partial to full shade and is adaptable to both dry and moist conditions. 

Ferns: Ferns are a great choice for adding texture to your gardens. Most varieties are dense and low growing. Grow in partial shade to shade, and moist to wet soil. 

Goatsbeard: Goatsbeard features ferny green foliage and showcases feathery white blooms in late spring. It exhibits a mounded growth habit and reaches up to 4′ tall at maturity. Grows best in partial shade, protected from the hot afternoon sun.

Helleborus: Helleborus features large, cup shaped flowers that bloom in early spring and are available in various colors. This plant does best in partial shade to full shade and average to evenly moist conditions. 

Heuchera: Heuchera, or Coral Bells, are compact mounds of foliage that feature dainty spikes of flowers in late spring. This plant does well in both full sun and full shade, and average to moist conditions.

Hosta: Hostas are one of the most popular shade perennials. These are available in a wide selection of varieties with heart shaped leaves and dainty flowers. This plant does best in partial shade to shade and average to moist conditions. 

Mountain Laurel: This beautiful broadleaf evergreen shrub produces clusters of unique, shell-shaped blooms. Mountain Laurel grows will in partial sun to full shade.

Primrose: Primrose are a dense and low growing perennial featuring clusters of beautiful flowers available in a variety of colors. This plant prefers to grow in partial to full shade and requires evenly moist, well-drained soil. 

Rhododendron: Rhododendrons feature stunning clusters of bright blooms on a hardy and dense shrub. These make wonderful focal points for spots with partial shade in your garden. Avoid hot, dry locations that receive direct afternoon sun or get reflected sunlight. 

Turtlehead: Turtlehead produces tubular flowers on the ends of tall stems from late summer to mid-fall. This plant does best in full sun to partial shade and prefers to grow in average to wet conditions. Turtlehead is very tolerant of shaded locations. 

Viburnum: Viburnum are spectacular shrubs which will be covered with clusters of white flowers in the spring. While these plants will perform best with more sun exposure, they are shade tolerant and can adapt to their location. This plant does prefer moist, organically rich soil.

Viola: Violas are low growing and stunning perennials. These plants can grow in partial shade but prefer full to moderate sun and prefer average to moist conditions. Violas are self-seeding and fast growing!
